This Privacy Policy explains what information Balance of Nations ("we," "us," the "Site," at balanceofnations.com) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Balance of Nations is an independent, free-to-play game. By using the Site you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

If you create an account or sign in

Sign-in is optional. If you choose to sign in with Google, Apple, or email, authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito (a service of Amazon Web Services). We receive a unique account identifier and the email address associated with that sign-in so we can recognize you on return visits. We store a nickname you choose and your game progress and scores. We never receive or store your password.

If you play as a guest

You can play without an account. In guest mode, your preferences and progress are stored locally in your browser and are not linked to an identity on our servers.

Information stored in your browser

The Site uses your browser's local storage to remember things like your sound and display preferences, whether you've seen the intro, your daily streak, and any game in progress. This information stays on your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Leaderboard

If you post a score, the nickname you choose and your score are displayed publicly on the leaderboard. Please do not use a nickname that reveals personal information you don't want shown.

Notifications (optional)

If you opt in to notifications, we store a browser push subscription so we can send occasional reminders (for example, that a daily streak is about to lapse). You can revoke this at any time in your browser or device settings, which stops all notifications.

Advertising and cookies

We may display advertising to help cover the cost of running the Site. Ads appear only on menu and results screens — never during a decision.

• Google AdSense. We use Google AdSense to serve ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third party's use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices and, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.

How we use information

We use the information above to run the game and its features — saving and syncing your progress, showing leaderboards, sending notifications you opted into, displaying advertising, and keeping the Site secure and working. We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers

The Site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (including CloudFront, S3, Lambda, Amazon Cognito, and DynamoDB), and uses Google AdSense for advertising and Google Fonts for typography. These providers process data on our behalf or under their own policies as described above.

Data retention and your choices

You can play entirely as a guest, opt out of personalized ads with the links above, disable notifications in your browser, and clear local data through your browser settings. If you have an account and would like your stored account data deleted, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

The Site is operated from the United States and data is processed there. By using the Site you understand that your information may be processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
